Spider- Man sets new record for opening weekend gross receipts Nashville Tennessee, May 6, 2002
"Spiderman", over the May 3rd weekend, set a new record for opening weekend box office receipts by grossing more than $114 million, smashing the previous record of $90.3 million set only last November by "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". "Spider-man also set a new one day record of $43.7 million on Saturday, May 4th. Both "Spider-Man" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" were dubbed on Harrison film dubbing consoles, the film consoles of choice for premiere film mixers worldwide
"Spider-Man" was dubbed at Sony Pictures in Hollywood on two separate Harrison Digital MPC2 film mixing consoles by the award winning mixing duo of Kevin OıConnell and Greg P. Russell, the team that mixed last yearıs blockbuster "Pearl Harbor". "Spider-Manıs" record $114 million crushed the previous record of $90.3 million reaped by ``Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone''. "Spider-Man" was released to 3615 theaters.
The sound effects predubs for "Spider-Man" were mixed in the Anthony Quinn Theater, Sonyıs newest Harrison Digital MPC2 Theater that opened last November. The dialog predubs and the final mix took place in the world famous Cary Grant Theater at Sony Pictures. Sony Pictures, an all Harrison facility, owns ten Harrison film consoles, five of which are Harrison Digital MPC2's. The other five are analog MPCıs.
The previous holder of the opening weekend record, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was dubbed on a Harrison MPC film mixing console at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Shepperton Studios, one of the UK's leading film dubbing facilities, is also an all Harrison film console facility featuring three large MPC film mixing consoles. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was dubbed by the world famous team of Ray Merrin and Graham Daniel in the same historic theatre at Shepperton where such legendary films as "Lawrence of Arabia" was dubbed over half a century ago. The room was completely renovated in 1995 concurrent with the installation of the Harrison MPC film dubbing console.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" opened in November of 2001 on 3672 movie screens, and has, to date, grossed 935.8 Million dollars according to boxofficereport.com.
