UHDV: Ultra High Definition Video the next level of ultimate audio and video
Japanese broadcasters are already working the next level of audio and video entertainment called UHDV, Ultra High Definition Video.
UHDV, has a resolution 16 times greater than HDTV. With a picture size of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels it’s goal is to make you feel that you are actually there. This is a total of about 32 million pixels, now you only need a hard disk to store this… By comparison HDTV has only 2 million pixels. A normal TV uses just 0.2 million pixels. Compared to normal TV UHDV will have 4000 against 480 lines of your TV.
The current UHDV proposal has also some ideas about how you should experience sound. The new standard calls for 22.2 sound:
10 speakers at ear level
9 above and 3 below ear level
2 for low frequency effects.
This makes the standard multichannel systems like the 5.1 surround system a joke.
Now combine those pixels and sound channels and you get a lot of. In test, an 18-minute UHDV video gobbled up 3.5 terabytes of storage (equivalent to about 750 DVD's).
