Hi there! This is really a users friendly machine! But. . . . It's a pitty that it only uses a 100mb zipp. I think 250 gives a bit more space In the whole it's a good machine! Regards Joris neijenhuis
Well I still havent really figured out how to use all of it, but ive been working with the basics and recording some of my own tracks. they include drums, vocals, guitar, and bass. I use the behringer160a as a sub-mixer for the drums, And also for the vocals. it has the fantom switch for my condensor mics. The vocals still need alot of work, and the Drums still need a liitle work, but im working it. if you can give me some tips on hhow to come out with a cleaner . Thanx.

I Upgraded from a Fostex 4 track, which I found frustrating because of its limits. To start with I deleted the odd song completely whilst I was trying to bounce the first six tracks onto the last two, but I'm getting the hang of it now!! Give it a month or two, and don't record anything you cant afford to lose before you risk your masterpiece on it!! The manual is not overly helpful, it probably wasn't written with musicians in mind-man!
I like everything about this product EXCEPT that you cannot (I THINK!) have the guitar input & the line input active simultaneously. Apart from that It is quite simply BRILLIANT! I thought that the manual was OK. The machine itself really is As straightforward or involved (editing patches,EQs etc. )as the user wants it to be. Well worth investing in! 9 1/2 out of 10 (would have been 10 if I could use those inputs at the same time!)
Every time I use it I love it more. Every time I figure out something else it does I love it more. If only the manual was written in a clear, understandable manner I would give it a 10
It's a very easy to use, inexpensive piece of recording equipment. It can be used directly trhough a jack/jack for a guitar or bassplayer. It uses the COSM technology for guitar effects, but I don't like the effects it produces. Personally I connect my Line6 POD to it, bypass all effects and then record.
The perfect songwriting tool.
Easy to use Good quality Price

Great recording tool, excellent effects and ease of use. Only drawback is the lack of memory(recording time)when You use all eight tracks.

Boss BR8 Workstation: br8 versatility

The boss br8 is a huge studio in a small package. it's portability has allowed me to work with some of my favorite musicians from different parts of the country by simply sending the entire package and instructions. it is complex enough to provide the voicing options to suit the tastes of all the players, but it doesn't require a degree from MIT to lay down the tracks. I highly recommend this equipment for all guitarist/songwriters

Boss BR8 Workstation: Great for writing

I have found that the BR 8 is a great writing tool. It is concievable (and proven) that you can make professional, even commercially sellable material on the BR 8, but I wouldn't suggest it. the only reason I don't advise trying to record a sellable product on the BR 8 is because I find it can be time consuming and frustrating to achieve that level of perfection on this machine. It would certainly be easier to record it in an actual studio or on a more professional DAW (porta-Studio). But as far as sketching out ideas and working on arrangements, to either record on your own in another studio or to show to your bandmates the BR 8 is a superb tool. Kudo's to Roland for making such a great Machine at a totaly reasonable price. I also read in an earlier post here that somoeone was wondering if you could activate both inputs simultaniously. . . I don't believe you can. Using a submixer (stereo) helps though while recording drums. I use a Behringer 4 channel board and use the stereo RCA line outs into the RCA line in Channel on the BR 8 and get really nice stereo drums. I also import all of my tracks seperatly into my computer and do a mix in PRO-TOOLS. This process is time consuming as well since you have to import each track seperately and then line them up (I dont believe you can export a time code from the BR 8). But if you have the patience and the time I find that this is a really good way to get a nice sound. Doing a mix on a different machine is nice because of all the 3rd party effects that are available.
