Yamaha AW2816 Professional Audio Workstation
An all-in-one workstation that integrates a digital mixer, hard disk recorder, CD-RW drive, etc. and realizes high quality studio work in a single series all the way to CD creation. The AW2816 is an all-in-one workstation which integrates a digital mixer that inherits the high performance of the 02R, the de facto standard model digital mixer used in the world's recording studios, a hard disk recorder capable of digitally recording a total of up to 130 tracks of uncompressed high quality 24-bit sound, and a CD-RW drive capable of creating an audio CD or backing up recording data, thus making it possible to realize a series of studio work from song creation to CD production. The high end model AW4416 developed last year, which greatly altered the flow of personal recording was highly anticipated by a broad spectrum of people ranging from top professionals to persons involved in amateur home recording and lovers of instrumental performance. What has been done in the development of the AW2816 was to thoroughly pursue the creation of a device that retains all the functions required to achieve the high quality of the AW4416 while being faithful to its design concept and basic performance, but which is more compact in size and easier to use. The highly acclaimed "Quick Rec" function in the AW4416 has been refined to make it easier to use and new functions, such as the "MIDI Remote" function, which demonstrates the AW2816's power when it is set up with a MIDI device or PC, have been added. Such features as these are just what you would expect from the AW2816, and they give its user a powerful advantage. A large number of features are incorporated into the compact body of the AW2816 to realize a package with easy operation and user friendliness, so that this model can enjoy wide use not only by musicians, composers and arrangers but also by places such as the studios engaged in the creation of multimedia contents, which are suddenly increasingly in demand. This workstation integrates a 28-channel full digital mixer, a 16-track (+ stereo track) 24-bit hard disk recorder, and a CD-RW drive, etc., making it possible to carry out the full recording operation from pro-grade multi-track recording to CD production. The great advantage of an integrated workstation is that the labor and expense of purchasing, installing and setting up individual pieces of equipment can not only be cut, but sound processing can be conducted in a fully digital environment, thus enabling the user to avoid sound quality degradation during the production process. The ability to exercise total control of the recording data and the mixing data as a single file also contributes greatly to the workstation's convenience. The AW2816 also has outstanding space saving advantages and excellent portability, making it possible to create high quality music wherever you may be without having to choose between your own room, a recording studio or a live auditorium. Digital Mixer - 28-channel fully digital mixer section with the 02R's direct processing capacity. The AW2816 uses the (DSP7), a new generation LSI developed independently by Yamaha which gives it functions and quality comparable to those of the 02R in a compact body and enables it to realize abundant inputs and outputs with 28 inputs and 18 bus outs. In addition, since it is digital, excellent flexibility is realized and it is possible to freely patch external inputs or passes to any desired input channel or output terminal. All the input channels and main stereo outs of the AW2816, with the exception of the effect return channels, have dynamic processors which are comparable in power to those in the 02R, and 4-band full parametric equalizers built in. Adjustments ranging from minute sound corrections to the creation of bold sounds can be done freely. There are also two systems of the latest multi-effectors built in which include a large number of programs, including effects for guitar. Uncompromising input/output section with a high performance head amp and 24-bit AD/DA. The AD/DA converter, which plays a vital role in determining sound quality is a 24-bit unit, and internal DSP processing assures 32-bit (EQ = 54 bit) high resolution and realizes overwhelmingly high sound quality. The head amp, which influences the character of the sound includes carefully selected parts to provide a design that achieves thorough high sound quality. An XLR terminal which enables a phantom power supply to be supplied to ch. 1 and ch. 2 is also provided and a high impedance input that is convenient for direct connection of a guitar or other instrument has been made standard equipment for ch. 8.
