new Yamaha 02R96 to be unveiled full 24-bit/96 kHz audioTwo institutions of the music industry will meet on July 18, 2002, as Yamaha Corporation of America, Professional Audio, will mark the U.S. debut of the new 02R96 Digital Mixing Console with the donation of the classic 02R to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's collection of music technology artifacts.As digital audio production has advanced and evolved since its 1995 introduction, the Yamaha 02R has remained an industry standard for recording and post-production facilities, live recording, and project studios. With the Summer NAMM 2002 introduction of the 02R96, Yamaha is poised to carry the heritage of its digital mixers into the future of music production. "This setting is more than appropriate for this donation," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Yamaha Professional Audio. "Of all recording markets in the U.S., Nashville unquestionably has one of the highest concentration of 02R users, including songwriters, producers, engineers and artists. Yamaha is proud to say that the 02R has been a vital tool in creating many hit songs that are now part of America's musical landscape." Originally located on Nashville's Music Row, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has been the home of America's music since 1967. The colossal $37 million structure encompasses an entire city block in the heart of downtown Nashville, steps from the historic Ryman Auditorium and the growing new entertainment district. The world-class facility opened on May 17, 2001 and honors the cultural significance of the music and achievements of its members, presenting a unique historical and entertainment experience. The collection of artifacts, selected by an expert curatorial and archival staff, has made the Country Music Hall of Fame one of the world's leading popular culture attractions. "A Yamaha 02R digital console makes a fine addition to our collection of audio technology artifacts, which contains examples of recording machinery dating back to Edison's Dictaphone of the 19th Century," states Mark Medley, senior curator for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. "We are grateful that the 02R will represent the continuing story of audio technology." "The 02R is an important component in the history of music production," states Rick Young, general manager, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. "This donation celebrates both new and classic music technology, just as the Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates both the history and ever-evolving nature of music. We're proud that the 02R will become a part of that history." The 02R96 builds on the success of breakthrough Yamaha digital console technology, and is the long-awaited successor of the revolutionary 02R. Built into virtually the same footprint and equipped with more than five times the processing power of the original 02R, the 02R96 features 56 channels of transparent, full resolution 24-bit/96 kHz audio, a range of stereo effects with 32-bit internal processing (several designed specifically for surround), full automation, meter bridge and wood side panels. The 02R96 will be available in August. The control surface and user interface allow analog-style hands-on operation, with 16 user-defined keys available for assignable functions. All 56 inputs feature fully independent compression and gating/ducking processors, 4-band fully parametric EQ, and delay. Up to four individual effect processors may be used simultaneously. A selection of preset libraries may be selected and used unmodified or edited, and user setups can be added for instant recall. Surround features include panning, joystick, monitoring, bass management, and stereo mix monitoring, ideal for 5.1. The 24 precision 100-millimeter motorized channel faders can be instantly layer-switched to control any channel. All available inputs, outputs, effects, and channel inserts can be assigned to any channel or output via a digital patching system, and a direct out function allows signal from any input channel to be routed to any digital or analog output. The eight aux busses can also be patched anywhere in the system, and patch setups may be stored for instant recall. The 02R96 integrates with digital audio workstations and provides extensive support for DigiDesign ProTools. Complete with Yamaha Studio Manager Software, the console is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms. For expansion purposes, four I/O slots are provided, and will accept 24-bit/96kHz-capable Mini-YGDAI digital and analog I/O cards. + Post comment/question/reply
