AW4416 expands with Waves DSP Y56K Effect Processor add-in card
Yamaha Professional Audio, announces the introduction of the Waves Y56K high-performance DSP add-in processor card for the AW4416 Professional Audio Workstation at Summer NAMM 2001. A joint development between Yamaha and Knoxville (TN)-based Waves, Inc., this hardware and software solution expands the recording, mixing and mastering capabilities of the AW4416, eliminating the need for rackmount or computer-based processing. The card and software package is currently available.
{2201.jpgrSeamlessly integrating with the workstation's normal operation, the Y56K inserts into either of the two Mini-YGDAI slots on the rear panel of the AW4416 and utilizes two 120 MIPS Motorola 56K DSPs. Audio processing is supported with 48-bit internal precision on a 24-bit I/O.
The Y56K includes ADAT Lightpipe fiber optic digital input/output in Master or Slave Mode, control software and six of Waves finest audio processors: TrueVerb, SuperTap Delay, L1-Ultramaximizer, Renaissance Compressor, Renaissance EQ and DeEsser.
"This joint venture with Waves reaffirms the success of the AW4416 and establishes that it is a viable and expandable platform for other manufacturers," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Yamaha Professional Audio.
Each installed card supports up to eight chains of effects. These chains may be set to mono or stereo pair and independently configured to process audio directly to or from the AW4416 or the Lightpipe I/O. Each effect chain supports up to five different effect functions, with each function's order individually controllable. The effects chains and processor settings may be saved, loaded and quickly accessed using the snapshot automation of the AW4416.
"The Yamaha AW4416 is about power, convenience and expandability," states Paul Bundschuh, vice president of marketing for Waves. "Until now, Waves award-winning processors have only been available for computer-based audio editing platforms. With Waves' Y56K, the AW4416 takes a major step in establishing itself as an open industry standard platform."
The Yamaha AW4416 contains full 32-bit DSP capabilities (similar to the Yamaha 02R digital console), 44 fully-automated audio inputs, 17 motorized faders, four fader and mute groups, eight bus and eight aux sends plus stereo, stereo cue busses and a front-mounted CD-RW drive, which enables mastering as well as loading and/or backing up data.
An integrated 16-track recording system—complete with sampling, editing and mastering capabilities—retains true 24-bit, 48 kHz resolution without data compression of any kind. The unit is currently available.
"Pairing the Yamaha AW4416 with the Waves Y56K will provide end users with a completely new level of creative options over any product in its market," adds John Schauer, product manager, Yamaha Professional Audio.
