Guitar Songwriting: Basic Scale Chord relations

Writing a song on guitar is easy if you know the chords that work together. But which chords do work together? To help you as a guitarist to understand this we can simply start with 2 principals.

1) Music Theory
2) Music that you have heard a lot

1, Music theory is the basic understanding of our note system that will help you understand the rules that link chords with scales, and which chords work together. 2, Not all music follows the basic music theory rules. So something that maybe doesn't follows the basic rules can sound good if you hear it a lot. And many small variations on the basic music theory rules work this way. Over the last 100 years of modern music we have all heard these basic variations and so they have become somewhat of a standard that does work because we have heard it all a lot.

But before we get deeper into not following rules, let's start with the music theory rules, because 90% or so of the songs simply use these rules, and work great.

It's helpful if you already have some recording equipment and/or computer with software setup, or even a guitar looper to help you play 2 parts together.
We are going to try some chord progressions and play a little melody or solo with them, and discuss why some work and some don't. Le'ts try the first one.

Let's take the A minor scale again and try some chords with it. And the follow chord progression.
