Digidesign Pro Tools 5.1.1 Includes Windows 2000 Support and More
Digidesign, a division of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), announces Pro Tools 5.1.1 software, featuring support for Windows 2000 with Pro Tools TDM systems. Pro Tools 5.1.1 software brings integrated surround mixing and a host of other powerful features to the Windows 2000 platform, as well as a number of enhancements to the Mac OS platform.
Pro Tools version 5.1.1 for Windows 2000 includes integrated surround mixing with support for all currently defined surround formats up to 7.1, as well as other features implemented in Pro Tools 5.1 for Mac OS. Features such as RTAS host-based processing on TDM systems and new MultiShell II DSP resource sharing make Pro Tools|24 MIX, MIXplus and the new Pro Tools|24 MIX 3 systems the most powerful core digital audio workstation product line available.
Additional features, including stereo and multi-channel disk tracks with simplified management of multichannel audio data, multiple levels of Undo, and AutoSave session capability are available on Windows-based TDM systems. Pro Tools 5.1.1 also includes a new Universe Window for global overview and session navigation. New management tools for active/inactive tracks, I/O routing, and plug-ins, as well as integrated track import make for smoother session integration and portability between system configurations.
Pro Tools 5.1.1 for Mac OS includes maintenance additions as well as new enhancements for Pro Tools|24 MIX, MIXplus and MIX3 systems. Macintosh owners can import compressed QuickTime files into Pro Tools. Other additions include display enhancements to the Show/Hide Tracks List, changes to the Edit/Mix Groups list, and improved Zoomer tool functionality. For Digidesign's new Control|24 control surface, Pro Tools 5.1.1 adds surround/ multichannel functionality. New filtering options within the Show/Hide Tracks list allow users to show and hide specific track types. A new menu enables the user to sort tracks by Name, Type, Edit Group, Mix Group or Voice.
Upcoming features to Pro Tools will also include FilmFrame support for AVoption|XL. Mac OS-based Pro Tools systems that are configured with AVoption|XL will soon be compatible with media and sequences created on Meridien-based Avid Film Composer systems. Unique to the Pro Tools/AVoption|XL audio workstation is the ability to work with picture from Film Composer XL and Avid Symphony in 24P format.
Forthcoming releases to Pro Tools will include Avid Unity MediaNet support. As part of Avid Unity, Pro Tools productivity is enhanced with tools to manage, move, or change media. Avid Unity expands the capabilities and throughput of any network-based workgroup. Avid Unity will handle and manage audio within a facility-class media network, optimizing the creative flow from picture to audio content creation. Powerful and unique features such as software-based media protection and dynamic storage allocation make Avid Unity a smart investment for Pro Tools professionals in fast paced and critical production schedules. Avid Unity greatly reduces the time consumed in handling audio and video material and managing storage. Connecting and optimizing Pro Tools for use with Avid systems, Unity provides simple and effective administration of users and storage resources and is unmatched for scalability, control, simple expansion.
