Universal Studios chooses Harrison MPC3-D large format Digital Film ConsoleThe Universal Studios post production sound facilities continue to keep pace with changing technology through an ongoing multi-million dollar development program, thereby retaining its leadership position in the world of post production sound. The latest acquisition in this broad initiative is the Harrison MP3-D digital film console. Utilizing the latest film mixing technology from Harrison, the MPC3-D will insure that Universal Studios Post Productions hold a creative and technical edge on the competition. The MPC3-D, featuring 192 digital channels with 56 channels of Pec/Direct switching, incorporates many revolutionary enhancements over the earlier versions of the Motion Picture Console (MPC). With the latest sub-frame accurate automation and the inclusion of radical new sound filter plug-ins a.k.a. "Toys", the MPC3-D continues the evolution of Harrison film console innovation. The Toys plug-ins, De-Esser, Camera Noise Filter, Buss Limiter, Leveled EQ, Crossover EQ, Telephone Filter and other specialized filters form an on-demand matrix of hardware and software based tools, each using dedicated DSP for optimum power and flexibility. By design, the MPC3-D is a large-scale, multi-operator console and can be configured as a one, two or three operator desk. Any existing MPC can be upgraded to MPC3-D via replacement panels and the IKIS Automaton and digital.engine. Controls have been enhanced and now include dedicated 8-band EQ controls per strip, dedicated dynamics controls per strip and expanded panning controls, at the same time retaining the familiar and comfortable feel of the console. The console can accommodate virtually any combination of input sections and custom master section layouts. The entire console can be tailor made to suit the needs of any facility. Over the years, Harrison has paid close attention to the film industry. Because of this, every MPC3-D comes equipped with many features specially engineered to accommodate the rigors of the film-mixing environment. These features and tools were inspired by close contact with film industry leaders and were created with input from industry leading creative professionals.
