My X-12 gets progressively slower each time I play back something I record. I bought this new 4 track after buying a used Tascam Portastudio digital 4-track which cut and pasted my songs and spat sound bytes back to me in random order like "Being the Benefit of Mr. Kite. " My advice to anyone buying home audio equipment is to try using 2 tin cans with twine before you spend money on any Fostex or Tascam equipment, because I've had bad luck w/ them

I had trouble with the motor speed fluctuating and changing the pitch on each track. The controls are very primitive. But the overall sound quality of the recordings is very good

Well I bought this on the strength of the original fostex recorders back in the 80's. But it turns out to be complete crap . The speed goes up and down during record AND playback, so what kind of chance have you got?
I took it back and got a replacement and all seemed to be fine. But two weeks of use and lo and behold the speed went tits up on me again!
If you can afford to get better, then do so. If you are broke and cannot afford better, then save a bit longer coz this little creation is complete donkey poo in my opinion
