New Digidesign Soft SampleCell Standalone software sample player and editorDigidesign®, a division of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), announces the new Soft SampleCell® for Macintosh at NAB. Soft SampleCell is a new host based software program that will run without the need for any additional hardware. Shipping soon, Soft SampleCell builds upon Digidesign's popular SampleCell II Plus PCI based hardware card, offering an improved SampleCell Editor application to create or open banks, instruments and to adjust playback parameters. The wide range of professional SampleCell libraries, and the multitude of file formats including SoundDesigner II, AIFF and WAV are supported by Soft SampleCell.Soft SampleCell is a powerful, easy-to-use and cost-effective sampler solution. Soft SampleCell includes a revolutionary host-based engine that uses the cpu's megahertz speed to offer increased voice count. Up to 64 dynamically allocated voices can currently be used (based on host CPU speed). Soft SampleCell provides minimal latency and maximum efficiency, triggering 24-bit samples with no noticeable delay. As a host-based software program without the need for hardware, Soft SampleCell provides an exciting solution for both desktop and laptop computers. Soft SampleCell provides all the features found in other samplers, including three envelopes and two LFOs per voice. SampleCell's unique modulation matrix and a built-in loop editor are also included. Soft SampleCell supports playback of up to 24-bit audio files, and features a new, smooth-sounding 4-pole resonant lowpass filter and an adjustable quality setting for pitch interpolation. Soft SampleCell also allows up to 1 Gigabyte(*) worth of samples to be stored using the host CPU's main system RAM. Soft SampleCell provides the advantage and benefits of computer-based file management. For creating, editing and managing banks, instruments and audio files, Soft SampleCell offers the full screen ease of naming, storing and recall. Soft SampleCell is a powerful and versatile application that allows users to build up a gigantic database of samples. Offering powerful integration options, Soft SampleCell is the perfect companion for Pro Tools LE and TDM systems or any other third-party sequencer software. Soft SampleCell can also be run alongside one or more SampleCell II Plus cards. When used with DirectConnect, Soft SampleCell allows up to 32 channels of 24-bit audio to be streamed right into the Pro Tools mixer, allowing complete automation and effect processing to be applied to any or all channels. The diverse range of world-class real-time Plug-Ins and the automation available on the Pro Tools and Pro Tools LE platforms can be used on sample tracks. When used with DirectConnect, Soft SampleCell also supports total recall of all banks and instruments. As a stand-alone sample player, Soft SampleCell allows you to output up to 16 channels of analog or digital audio when used with Digidesign audio interfaces or a Digi 001. The feature rich improvements to the software editor are also updated for use with SampleCell II hardware. With the dedicated hardware of SampleCell II Plus already providing superior timing and power on demand, Soft SampleCell can be added for increased memory allocation and number of available voices. Users can easily switch between sample playback via hardware, software, or both. Soft SampleCell provides SampleCell II Plus owners with a flexible and cost-effective way to expand their system's sample playback capabilities.
