Luis Miguel Electrifies Santiago with Meyer Sound PA SystemFrom Luis Miguel’s debut album, 1982’s Un sol, through his most recent release, Mexico en la Piel in 2004, the Mexican singer’s albums have been best sellers throughout Latin America and Europe, and his concerts sold out wherever he has played. Miguel is also known to be a perfectionist, personally seeing to the quality of each of his performances. This dedication to making sure his audience always gets the best has been reflected during the tour for Mexico en la Piel. At Miguel’s National Stadium of Santiago, Chile, performance last November more than 40,000 people bore witness once again to the reason Miguel continues to be one of Latin America’s most loved artists.In order to cover the audio demands of the country’s main sports arena, Stecher Sound, who, along with strategic ally Audiopro, was contracted to provide sound for the memorable concert, opted for a system of Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers to satisfy the show’s demanding technical requirements. The main system was made up of left and right arrays of 18 MILO high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers each, with sidefill arrays of 12 M2D compact curvilinear array loudspeakers on each side. Six 650-P subwoofers and eight 700-HP subwoofers on each side, configured to provide a cardioid response, supplied plenty of low-frequency support. A delay system was set up in two towers, each housing nine MSL-4 horn-loaded long-throw loudspeakers and four M3D-Sub directional subwoofers, while four CQ-1 wide coverage main loudspeakers performed frontfill duties. “I was really impressed by the MILO loudspeakers,” says Nedielko Tudorovic, commercial and production manager of Stecher Sound. “Thanks to an accurate prediction from MAPP Online Pro (acoustical prediction software) and the use of the SIM 3 (audio analyzer), we achieved what had never before been done at the National Stadium of Santiago: a quick setup, adequate sound pressure, even coverage, and great frequency response in all the areas of the establishment. What impresses me the most are the high levels of sound pressure with almost imperceptible distortion, which means that the audio is heard distinctly and with clarity.” Based on venue plans sent by Stecher’s technical team, Oscar Gamas from Meyer Sound’s Mexico office worked with MAPP Online Pro to help develop the system specification, obtaining optimal array heights and angles, checking sound pressure and frequency response from the main system at various spots, as well as configuring for the best coverage from the delay and frontfill systems. The program was also used to determine the subwoofer configuration. SIM 3 was an essential tool for the alignment of the system, especially aiding in adjustment of equalization, delay times and levels in the whole audio system, including optimizing configuration of the 700-HP and 650-P subwoofers. “Meyer Sound’s unconditional technical support was essential for us," said Jorge Diez, of Audiopro. “The presence of Oscar Gamas in Chile was key to the optimal calibration of the system. “Once again our MILO, M2D and 700-HP systems make us look really good in front of our clients. The peace of mind that comes from working with Meyer Sound products is complete, because we are not just talking about an excellent speaker, but about the support that the manufacturer gives us to face any challenge.”
