Audio-Technica MUSICaliforniaIvory Ivory & Brass Burchfield Brothers Rudy CervantesThe 29th annual MUSICalifornia event took place in San Diego, April 1-5, 2002. This national Christian music exposition is considered the trendsetter for the church music market and thanks to Audio-Technica, this year's event sounded better than ever.The five-day MUSICalifornia was founded by Ralph Carmichael and Ray DeVries in 1973 as a virtual one-stop shopping center for choir directors from around the country. Featuring artists such as Ivory & Brass, The Burchfield Brothers, trumpeter Rudy Cervantes, and guitarist Jay Leach, the 2002 event was a huge success. Alpha Sound and Lighting Co. has done the live sound for MUSICalifornia for 19 years. This year they used a wide selection of Audio-Technica microphones and accessories, including: 6 Engineered Sound ESW-R220 receivers, 14 ES943cW/C lavalier microphones, 14 ESW-T214 handheld microphone/transmitters, 12 ESW-T211 body-pack transmitters, 2 ATW-7373 UHF Multi-channel Wireless Systems with ATW-T73 handheld microphone/transmitters and ATW-T75 UniPak transmitters, 1 each of the DA-600 and DA-700 UHF antenna distribution systems, and 3 ATW-A20 UHF ground-plane antenna systems. Audio-Technica's Engineered Sound Wireless systems made a tremendous difference at the show's main venue situated in the ballroom of the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel. "The problem here is that the ceiling is only 16 feet high," explains Mike Evans, V.P. and Systems Designer of Alpha Sound and Lighting Co. "We fly the main cabinets off the lighting truss stage right and left. But, that puts the bottom of the truss only 14 feet off the floor. Plus, due to pick points and ceiling design, the main house cabinets are located about midstage. Now, you light up 12 wireless lavaliers at once and try for gain before feedback!"
