Interval Music Theory: what is an Interval?

The name interval is used to describe a distance between two notes. Each distance in music theory has been given a name. These names are used to make it easier to talk (and write) about music. And because there is a relation between certain intervals.

Intervals are used in different parts of music theory. They can be used to describe how far two notes are apart, how a chord type is defined or how a scale is defined.
