Songwriting: what is a good Chorus?
About 50% of a song is just the same 4 line chorus repeated. This means that any good songwriter must be able to write a 4 line part that can be used as the chorus and make the song work. This is really as easy as it sounds and writing 4 lines is not the difficult part.
Writing good songs is knowing which 4 lines work and which 4 lines are better left unused. Good songwriting is simply ignoring the things that won’t work and trying to learn what works. You may get away with writing lyrics for the verse that don't work and you yourself are not even satisfied with. Like many top 10 hits have proven: if the chorus is any good the song will work. So what makes a chorus work? And what doesn't?
