Advanced Dance Rhythm Drum Hihat Patterns 4

To create an interesting drum rhythm for dance music you really need to use more than just the bass drum and hihat. In this next example we have spiced up our previous rhythm with a snare side stick and some toms. But a hand clap or some other percussion sounds would probably work even better. All you need to do is experiment!

A few basics rules for making such a rhythm work:

1) The basic bass drum/bass pattern is not changed,
2) The added sounds emphasize the pattern.
3) The added sounds have their own rhythm pattern, not just a complete double
4) The added sounds are have a lower note volume than the main rhythm pattern

This is actually a typical rhythm layering technique that we used. Each of the percussive sounds has their own unique pattern.
