Millennia Announces LPE-2 Analog Legacy Modern & Archival Phonographic Playback System
Amsterdam AES, Because early phonograph recordings were produced with a wide variety of non-standard phono compensation curves, the LPE-2 was developed to offer a virtually unlimited array of pristine compensation networks for modern (33-1/3) and legacy (78) pressings. For recordings in need of sonic repair, the LPE-2 also offers four bands of Class-A biased, all-discrete signal path equalizing filters, offering a wide range of surgical correction.
The LPE-2 front-end employs Millennia's acclaimed HV-3 preamplifier technology perfectly optimized for phono application. Featuring user-selectable input impedance and capacitance, the LPE-2 front-end is a true differentially balanced (double balanced) discrete-hybrid design, offering ultra-low noise and superb analog resolution.
Designed for both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, the LPE-2 front-end offers a 36-step gain range to 60 dB (up to 90 dB upon request), stereo matching to .08 dB, polarity reversal, mono functions, and decoding for vertically grooved pressings. Millennia preamplifier and equalizer technology is a recognized standard in classical music recording, film scoring, acoustic jazz, audio mastering, and other critical applications where sonic invisibility and dynamic uniformity is required.
The Audio Conservation Studio of the National Library of Canada has just acquired Millennia’s first three LPE-2 Analog Legacy phono processors. With over 150,000 shellac, acetate, and vinyl discs to preserve, the National Library selected Millennia's new LPE-2 as their exclusive front end for playback of these rare and often irreplaceable audio recordings. The Library's main transfer rooms also employ Millennia Mixing Suites.
Gilles St-Laurent, Audio Conservator at the National Library's Audio Conservation Studio, says: "It is my responsibility to ensure the quality and accuracy of audio transfers. The LPE-2 happily reveals as much from a late 19th-century acoustical recording as it does from a 21st-century LP. Thanks to the LPE-2's astonishing sonic purity, professional build, and flexible compensation and filter equalizers, a significant part of Canada's recorded musical heritage will now be restored with unprecedented precision and historical fidelity."
The LPE-2 has a suggested retail price of $9,500, and is now shipping.
